Full Synopsis
*************
“You want Anna?” Sam repeats. “Why?” “Out of the way,” Uriel says, starting forward. “Whoa whoa whoa, I know she’s wire-tapping your angel chats or whatever, but that’s no reason to gank her,” Dean says, looking shocked. “Don’t worry,” Uriel replies with a smirk. “I’ll kill her gentle.” “You’re some heartless sons of bitches, you know that?” Dean says. “As a matter of fact, we are,” Castiel says flatly. “And...” “And?” Sam interrupts. “Anna’s an innocent girl!” “She is far from innocent,” Castiel replies. The brothers exchange confused glances. “What’s that supposed to mean?” Sam finally asks. “It means,” Uriel begins, “She’s worse than this abomination you’ve been screwing.” He glares at Ruby. “Now give us the girl.” The brothers look at each other again, and then Dean looks back at Uriel. “Sorry. You can get yourself another one.” “Who’s gonna stop us? You two? Or this demon whore?” Uriel throws Ruby aside, she smashes her head into the window and falls. Uriel grabs her neck and puts one hand over her head. Dean goes to attack him, but Uriel turns and grabs Dean as well and begins to hit him. “Cast - stop, please,” Sam tries, but Castiel merely puts two fingers to Sam’s head and Sam falls too. “Been waiting for this,” Uriel says happily as he beats up Dean. Castiel goes to reach for the handle to the door where Anna is, and suddenly there is a bright light, and he is pulled backwards and disappears. Uriel follows a second later. Dean spits blood. “What the...?” He gets up and helps Ruby to her feet, then moves to the door and opens it. “Anna?” She is standing inside, her hands bloody. Her arms have cuts on them, and there is a strange symbol drawn in blood on the mirror. “Are they gone?” she asks. “Did you kill them?” Dean asks. “No,” Anna replies. “I sent them away. Far away.” “You wanna tell me how?” Dean asks. “It just popped in my head,” she says. “I don’t know how I did it. I just did it.”
“What do you think?” Dean asks as he walks inside. Ruby is looking after Anna’s arms. “I think Anna’s getting more interesting by the second,” Sam replies. “Yeah, I agree,” Dean says. “And what did they mean by ‘she’s not innocent’?” Sam shrugs. “Seems they want her bad. And not just cause of that angel-radio thing. I mean that blood spill? That’s some serious crap, man.” “Something’s going on with her,” Dean agrees. “Go see what you can find out.” “What’re you gonna do?” Sam asks. “Anna may have sent the angels to the outfield, but sooner or later, they’re gonna be back,” Dean says. “We gotta get ourselves safe, now.”

Bobby’s place
*************
They are in Bobby’s panic room. Dean pats the walls. “Iron walls, drenched in salt,” he says to Anna, who is sitting nearby. “Demons can’t even touch the joint.” “Which I find racist, by the way,” says Ruby, who is standing outside. She tosses him something, and he catches it. “Hex bags?” “Extra crunchy. It’ll hide us from angels, demons, all-comers,” she replies. “Thanks Ruby,” Dean says. She looks surprised, but says nothing. Dean gives one of the hex bags to Anna. “Don’t lose this,” he says firmly. “So, what’s playing on angel-radio? Anything useful?” “It’s quiet,” she replies. “Dead silence.” “Good,” Dean says. “That’s not troubling at all.” Anna looks at him. “We’re in trouble, huh? You guys are scared?” Dean exchanges glances with Ruby, and then smiles. “Nah.” He hears Sam call his name, and turns to go, telling Anna to stay put. “Keep an eye on her,” he says to Ruby on the way out.
“How’s the car?” Dean asks Sam. “I got her, she’s fine,” Sam replies. “Where’s Bobby?” “Uh... the Dominican,” Dean says. “He said if we break anything, we buy it.” “Is he working a job?” Sam asks. “God I hope so,” Dean replies. “So what did you find on Anna?” “Uh, not much. Her parents were Rich and Amy Milton, a church deacon and a housewife,” Sam says, putting down Anna’s file so Dean can see. “But there is something here in her report, turns out this latest psyche-episode wasn’t her first. When she was two-and-a-half, she’d get hysterical anytime her dad got close, she was convinced that he wasn’t her real daddy.” “Who was?” Dean asks. “The plumber? A little snake in the pipes?” He grins. “Dude, you’re confusing reality with porn again,” Sam says. “Anna didn’t say, she just kept on repeating that this real father of hers was mad. Very mad, like wanted to kill her mad.” “Kinda heavy for a two year old,” Dean says. “Well, she saw a kid shrink, got better, and grew up normal,” Sam replies. “Until now,” Dean finishes. “So what’s she hiding?” “Why don’t you just ask me to my face?” Anna says, surprising them both. “Nice job watching her,” Dean says to Ruby, who is leaning on the wall behind. “I’m watching her,” Ruby says. “No, you’re right, Anna. Is there anything you wanna tell us?” Sam asks. “About what?” she asks. “The angels said you were guilty of something,” Sam explains. “Why would they say that?” “You tell me,” she says. “Tell me why my life has been levelled! Why my parents are dead! I don’t know. I swear. I would give anything to know.” “Okay,” says Sam. “Then let’s find out.” “How?” Anna asks.
Dean carefully walks down the stairs, leading Pamela the psychic behind him, she is wearing dark sunglasses. “We’re here!” he calls. “Pamela, hey!” Sam says, starting forward. “Sam,” she smiles. “Sam, is that you?” “Yeah it’s me,” Sam says. She reaches out and touches his shoulders, then his face. “Now I can tell,” she says, then slaps him on the butt. “That perky little ass of yours. You could bounce a nickel off that thing!” she laughs. “Of course I know it’s you, grumpy! Same way I know that’s a demon, and that poor girl’s Anna. And that you’ve been eyeing my rack.” Sam stutters a bit, and she laughs again. “Don’t sweat it, kiddo. I still got more senses then most.” She crosses to where the girls are. “Hey, Anna, how are you, I’m Pamela. Dean told me what’s been going on - I’m excited to help.” “Oh, that’s nice of you,” Anna says. “Oh well, not really,” Pamela says. “Any chance I can take over an angel, I’m taking it.” “Why?” “They stole something from me.” She lowers her glasses to show pure white fake eyes. “Demony, I know! But they’re just plastic. Good for business. Makes me look extra-psychic, don’t you think?” She laughs, and Anna smiles. “Now, how about you tell me what your deal is?”

Back in the panic room, Pamela is slowly hypnotizing Anna, who is lying on the bed. The boys and Ruby are watching. Finally Pamela asks Anna if she can hear her. “I can hear you,” Anna replies. “Now Anna, tell me. How can you hear the angels?” Pamela asks. “How did you work that spell?” “I don’t know,” Anna replies. “I just did.” “Your father,” Pamela says after a moment, “What’s his name?” “Rich Milton,” Anna says. “Alright,” Pamela goes on. “But I want you to look further back, when you were very young. Just a couple of years old.” “I don’t want to,” Anna says. “It’ll be okay - Anna, just one look. That’s all we need,” Pamela reassures her. Anna begins to get restless. “No,” she says. “What’s your dad’s name?” Pamela asks again. “Your real dad. Why is he angry at you?” “No,” Anna says again, twisting her head. “No, no, NO!” She screams and arches off the bed. “He’s gonna kill me!” she screams. “You’re safe,” Pamela says, but Anna goes on screaming. The lights shatter, and the door slams in Ruby’s face and locks. Dean starts forward and touches her, but Anna throws him backward with one flick of her arm. Pamela jumps up. “You’re waking in one, two, three, four, five.” Anna stops screaming. “Anna? Anna, are you alright?” Pamela asks calmly. Anna slowly sits up. “Thank you, Pamela. That helps a lot. I remember now.” “Remember what?” Sam asks. “Who I am,” she says. “I’ll bite,” Dean says. “Who are you?” “I’m an angel,” Anna replies.

“Don’t be afraid,” Anna says to Ruby, who is standing back. “I’m not like the others.” They are in the living room now. “I don’t find that very reassuring,” Ruby says. “Neither do I,” says Pamela, who is sitting between the boys. “So... Castiel, Uriel? They’re the ones that came for me?” Anna asks. “You knew them?” Sam says. “We were kinda in the same foxhole,” Anna says. “So what they were like your bosses or something?” Dean asks. “Try the other way around,” she says with a smile. “Look at you,” Dean says, looking surprised. “Now they wanna kill you?” Pamela asks. “Orders are orders,” Anna replies. “I’m sure I have a death sentence on my head.” “Why?” Pamela asks. “I disobeyed,” Anna replies. “Which for us, is about the worst thing you can do. I fell.” “Meaning?” Dean asks. “She fell to Earth,” Pamela explains. “Became human.” “Wait a minute, I don’t understand,” Sam interrupts. “So angels can just... become human?” “Kinda hurts. Try cutting your kidney out with a butter knife. That kinda hurt. I ripped out my grace,” Anna explains. “Come again?” Dean says, looking confused. “My grace... it’s energy,” she says. “Hacked it out and fell. My mother, Amy, couldn’t get pregnant. Always called me her little miracle. Had no idea how right she was.” “So, you just forgot that you were God’s little power ranger?” Dean asks. “The older I got, the longer I was human, yeah,” Anna says. “I don’t think you all appreciate how completely screwed we are,” Ruby cuts in suddenly. “Ruby’s right. Heaven wants me dead,” Anna agrees. “And Hell just... wants her,” Ruby adds. “A flesh and blood angel, that you can question. Torture. That bleeds. Sister, you’re the Stanley cup. And sooner or later? Heaven or Hell? They’re gonna find you.” “I know. And that’s why I’m gonna get it back,” Anna says. “My grace.” “You can do that?” Dean asks. She nods. “If I can find it.” “So, you’re just gonna take some divine bong hit and shazam, you’re Rhoma Downey?” Dean asks. “Something like that,” she says. “Alright. I like this plan,” Dean says. “So where’s this grace of yours?” “Lost track,” she admits. “I was falling about ten-thousand miles per hour at the time.” “Wait, you mean... falling? Like literally,” Sam asks. “Yes,” she says. “Like the way a human eye can see? Like a comet, maybe?” Sam goes on. “Or a meteor?” “Why do you ask?” Anna wonders.

“Here, in March ’85 a meteor vanished in the night sky over north-western Ohio,” Sam is saying to Ruby. “It was sighted nine months before Anna was born, and she was born in that part of Ohio.” “Pretty buff for a nerd,” Ruby says. “Look, I think it was Anna,” Sam says. “And here, same time, another meteor, over Kentucky.” “And that’s her grace,” Ruby says. “Might be,” Sam says. “Alright... that just narrows it down to an entire state,” Ruby says, standing up. “Look, it’s a start,” Sam says. “Sam, I’m sorry,” Ruby says. “For what?” Sam asks. “For bringing you this mess,” she says, turning back. “If I had known, I would’ve kept my trap shut.” “Yeah well, we’ll muddle through,” Sam replies. “Not this time - you do not wanna get between these two armies. It’s Godzilla and Mothra. If one side doesn’t get us, the other one will,” Ruby says. “So whaddya wanna do? Dump Anna and run?” Sam asks. Ruby raises one eyebrow. “Forget it. Look,” Sam says, standing up. “I know the angels freak you out.” “Forget the angels, it’s Alastair I’m scared of,” she says. “Alastair?” Sam says. “You met him in the church, practically the grand inquisitor downstairs? Picasso with a razor?” Ruby reminds him. “And?” Sam says. “And? You should pull him out,” Ruby says. “And throw him back in the pit. If you weren’t so out of shape...” “Ruby...” Sam begins. “No, you’re abilities... you’re getting flabby,” she says. “Yeah, so how do I tone up,” Sam asks. “You know how,” Ruby says walking closer. “You know what you gotta do.” Sam looks away. “No, I’m not doing that anymore.” “Sam...” Ruby tries. “I said no,” Sam says firmly. “Well then you better pray that Anna gets her groove back. Or we’re all dead,” Ruby warns.

Anna is sitting outside in Bobby’s scrapyard, looking at the night sky, when Dean pulls up in the Impala. “Pamela get home okay?” Anna asks as Dean walks over. “Yeah, she said she was sorry, it’s just after last time she uh... this is just a little too rich for her blood,” Dean explains. “I don’t blame her,” Anna says. “You guys should do the same.” “We’re not that smart,” Dean says. “Hey, can I ask you something?” He crosses to lean on the car beside her. “What do they want me for? Why did they save me?” Anna shakes her head. “I’m sorry. The angels aren’t talking about it. And it was after I fell.” Dean nods. “Here’s another question. Why would you fall? Why would you wanna be one of us?” “You don’t mean that,” Anna says, looking away. “I don’t?” Dean says. “A bunch of miserable bastards, I mean eating, crapping, confused, afraid...” “I dunno, there’s loyalty,” Anna begins. “Forgiveness. Love.” “Pain,” Dean says. “Chocolate cake,” Anna counters. “Guilt,” Dean says. “Sex,” Anna says. Dean stops. “Yeah, you got me there.” Anna smiles. “I mean it. Every emotion, Dean. Even the bad ones. It’s why I fell. Why I’d give anything not to have to go back. Anything.” Dean nods. “Feelings are overrated, if you ask me.” “Beats being an angel,” Anna says. “How is that possible?” Dean frowns. “You guys are powerful, perfect. You don’t doubt yourselves. Or God. Or anything.” “Perfect,” Anna cuts in. “Like a marble statue. Cold. No choice. Only obedience - Dean, do you know how many angels have actually seen God? Seen his face?” “All of you?” Dean guesses. “Four angels. Four. And I’m not one of them,” she says. “That’s it?” Dean asks incredulously. “Well then how do you even know that there is a God?” “We have to take it on faith. Which we’re killed if we don’t have,” she replies. “I was stationed on Earth, two thousand years. Just watching. Silent. Invisible - out in the road... sick for home, waiting for orders from an unknowable father I can’t begin to understand! So don’t tell me that...” She stops, Dean is smiling. “What is so funny? What?” she asks. “Nothing, sorry. It’s just... I can relate,” he says. “Hey,” Sam says, and they turn around. “Did you find something?” Dean asks. “I think so,” Sam says.

Sam tells them about a ‘miracle’ in Kentucky. “In ’85, there was an empty field outside of town,” he says. “Six months later there was a full-grown Oak. They say it looks a century old at least.” “What do you think?” Dean asks. “The grace,” Anna replies. “Where it hit. It could have done something like that. Easy.” “So, grace ground zero, it’s not destruction, it’s...” “Pure creation,” Anna finishes.
On the road

They are all in the Impala, Sam and Dean in the front seat and the girls in the back. Dean glances in the rearview mirror and starts laughing. “What?” Ruby asks. “Nothing,” Dean says. “It’s just... an angel and a demon riding in the back seat. It’s like the set up to a bad joke. Or a penthouse forum letter.” “Dude, reality - porn,” Sam says again. “You call this reality?” Dean asks.
They all get out of the car and walk toward the tree, standing in the middle of the field. “It’s beautiful,” Dean says. “It’s where the grace touched down. I can feel it,” Anna says. “You ready to do this?” Dean asks. “Not really,” she replies, but starts forward anyway. They all follow her. Sam asks what they are looking for, but she just lays her hand on the tree trunk. “It doesn’t matter,” she says suddenly. “It’s not here. Not anymore. Someone took it.”

Cabin

“Well we still got the hex bags, I say we head back to the panic room,” Dean says. “What, forever?” Ruby asks sarcastically. “I’m just thinking out loud,” Dean says angrily. “Oh you call that thinking,” Ruby snaps. “Hey hey hey, stop it,” Sam says firmly, walking up. “Anna’s grace is gone, you understand? She can’t angel-up, she can’t protect us. We can’t fight Heaven and Hell. One side maybe, but not both,” Ruby says desperately. “Um, guys?” Anna interrupts. “The angels are talking again.” “What are they saying?” Sam asks. “It’s weird. Like a recording,” she begins. “A loop. It says... Dean Winchester gives us Anna by midnight, or we hurl him back to damnation.” Dean’s eyes widen, and he glances automatically at Sam. Sam holds up his hand. “Anna. Do you know of any weapon that works on an angel?” “To what? To kill them?” Anna asks. “Nothing we could get to. Not right now.” Dean suggests they call Bobby, but Sam argues that there’s nothing Bobby could tell them that they don’t already know.

Dean is reading a book on top of the Impala when Anna approaches him. “Hey,” he says. “Holding up okay?” “Trying,” she replies. “A little scared I guess. So... Dean?” He turns to look at her. “I just wanted to thank you.” “For what?” Dean asks. “Everything,” she says. “You guys... you didn’t have to help me.” “Hey, let’s can the ‘thanks for trying’ speech,” Dean says. “Participation trophies suck ass.” “I dunno,” Anna says. “Maybe I don’t deserve to be saved.” “Don’t talk like that,” Dean says. “I disobeyed,” Anna says. “Lucifer disobeyed. It’s our murder one. And I knew it. Maybe I gotta pay.” “Yeah well... we’ve all done things we gotta pay for,” Dean replies. Anna looks at him, and then moves closer. “I gotta tell you something. You’re not gonna like it. About a week ago, I heard the angels talking. About you. What you did in Hell. Dean, I know.” Dean looks away, and then jumps a little as she touches his cheek. “It wasn’t your fault,” she says. “You should forgive yourself.” “Anna, I don’t - I don’t wanna...” Dean begins, “I don’t wanna... I can’t talk about that.” “I know,” she says gently. “But when you can? You have people that wanna help. You’re not alone. That’s all I’m trying to say.” She stands up and slowly kisses him. “What was that for?” he asks. “You know... our last night on Earth. All that,” she smiles. “You’re stealing my best line,” Dean says, then shrugs and kisses her.

In the back of the Impala, they kiss and undress. Anna puts her hand over the burn on Dean’s shoulder, and then continues to kiss him.
Inside, Sam is sleeping while Ruby watches. She slowly walks past him, and then outside. .

Outside, she lights a hex bag on fire, and drops it. It starts a little blue fire. She waits, looking around. “Hello Ruby,” Alastair says, standing behind her. “Alastair,” she says. “I have to say,” he begins, “I’m surprised to find you out in the open like this.” “Yeah? Desperate times,” she replies. “That they are,” Alastair agrees. “You looking for this?” He holds up her knife. “Your gawky human friend gave it to me.” “Keep it,” Ruby says. “I just came to talk.” “About what? About how a demon is protecting an angel?” Alastair asks. “We really must revoke your membership.” “Look, I know I’m not employee of the month,”Ruby admits. “But this? I never wanted to get into the middle of this.” “Why’re you here, Ruby?” Alastair asks. “I’ll give you the angel,” she says. “Will you? And in return?” Alastair asks. “I walk away. Me and the Winchester boys, both of them,” Ruby says. “This angel business, it’s none of our business.” “Hmm. You know, I’d always heard that you were a devious, cowardly little slut,” Alastair says, walking past her and turning around. “You don’t disappoint.” “So whaddya say?” Ruby asks. “It’s interesting. Prudent,” Alastair says, and suddenly two men grab Ruby. “But let me make you a... counter-offer.” He walks closer and touches her cheek with the knife as the two big men hold her in place.

Dean walks into the barn, and stops. Uriel is there. “Look at that,” he says. “So cute, how monkeys wear clothes.” Dean stares for a moment, then says “I’m dreaming, aren’t I?” “That’s the only way we could chat,” Uriel replies. “Since you’re hiding like cowards.” “Don’t normally see you off leash, where’s your boss?” Dean asks. “Castiel? Oh, he’s... he’s not here,” Uriel replies. “See, he has this weakness. He likes you. Time’s up, boy. We want the girl.” “Wouldn’t try that if I were you,” Dean says. “See, she got her grace back. Full-bone angel now.” Uriel smirks. “That’d be a neat trick seeing as... I have her grace right here.” He pulls something up from around his neck, it’s a little bottle with what appears to be white light in it. “We can’t let Hell get their hooks into her.” “Well then why don’t you just give her back her angel juice?” Dean says. “She committed a serious crime,” Uriel says. “What? Thinking for herself?” Dean asks. “This is our business. Not yours,” Uriel says. “She’s not even human. Not technically.” “Yeah well I guess I just like being a pain in the pooper,” Dean says with a smirk. Uriel smiles. “Nah. There’s more.” He walks closer, then laughs. “You cut yourself a slice of angel food cake, didn’t you? Huh? You did!” He laughs again. “What do you care?” Dean asks. “You’re junkless down there, right? Like a Ken doll?” “Ooooh,” Uriel says, laughing. “Well. It’s your last chance. Give us the girl, or...” “Or what? What, you’re gonna toss me back in the hole?” Dean says. “You’re bluffing.” “Try me,” Uriel says. “This is a whole lot bigger than the plans we have for you, Dean. You can be replaced.” Dean nods, looking down, then finally says, “What the hell. Go ahead and do it.” Uriel walks closer. “You’re just crazy enough to go, aren’t you?” “What can I say, I don’t break easy,” Dean says tightly. “Oh yes... you do,” Uriel replies. “You just gotta know where to apply the right pressure.”
Ruby is screaming, tied down and gagged. “You know the problem with your generation,” Alastair says, “Instant gratification, it’s all now, now, now. No patience, no craftsmanship... But I do have to say, this knife of yours? It’s an exquisite piece.” He holds it up, it is bloody, like his hands. Ruby has blood on her, too. “You must tell me where you found it,” Alastair goes on. “You know, I haven’t been up here since... oh, ’43. Truth is, I know that it’s chilly. No stink of blood or sizzled flesh, or the wet flap of flayed skin. I don’t know how you stand it. So, the sooner you cooperate, the sooner I can finish up with this ghastly angel business, and return home to my studies. But no rush, let’s take our time, relish the moment... now, I’m going to remove this, but don’t you go smoking out of that meat. You won’t get very far.” He takes off the gag over her mouth. “Now you tell me where that angel is.” “No,” Ruby says. “No?” Alastair repeats. “I tell you, you kill me,” Ruby says. “But I’ll show you.”

Anna walks into the barn, Dean is sitting down, drinking whiskey. Sam walks up. “I don’t know, man. Where’s Ruby?” “Hey, she’s your hell-buddy,” Dean says. “Little early for that, isn’t it?” Anna asks, walking over. Dean shrugs. “Its two AM somewhere.” “You okay?” she asks. “Yeah of course,” Dean says, looking uneasy. Suddenly the barn doors fly open, and Castiel and Uriel walk in.
“Hello, Anna,” Castiel says. “It’s good to see you.” “How? How’d you find us?” Sam asks. Castiel says nothing, but looks at Dean. Dean looks back, his head lowered. Sam and Anna look at him too. “Dean?” Sam asks, shocked. “I’m sorry,” Dean whispers. “Why?” Sam says. “Because they gave him a choice. They either kill me, or kill you,” Anna realizes. “I know how their minds work.” She turns and touches Dean’s arm, then kisses him. “You did the best you could. I forgive you.” She turns and walks toward Castiel. “Okay. No more tricks. No more running. I’m ready.” “I am sorry,” says Castiel. “No, you’re not. Not really. You don’t know the feeling,” Anna says. “Still, we have a history,” Castiel replies. “It’s just...” “Orders are orders. I know,” she interrupts. “Just make it quick.”

“Don’t you touch a hair on that poor girl’s head,” says a voice suddenly, and they turn to see Alastair, standing behind with Ruby and the two big men from earlier. Ruby is sagging between the two men, her stomach bloody. Uriel starts forward. “How dare you come in this room,” he says. “You pussy sore.” “Name-calling,” Alastair says, walking forward too. “That hurt my feelings. You sanctimonious fanatical prick.” “Turn around and walk away, now,” Castiel says dangerously. “Sure, just give us the girl,” Alastair says. “We’ll make sure she gets punished good and proper.” “You know who we are and what we will do,” Castiel says firmly. He moves forward to stand beside Uriel. “I won’t say it again. Leave now. Or we lay you to waste.” “Think I’ll take my chances,” Alastair replies. In a flash, Uriel grabs one of the two big men and throws him aside, the knocks aside the next one. Castiel attacks Alastair, hitting him and then putting a palm on his forehead. Nothing happens. “Sorry kiddo - why don’t you go run to Daddy?” Alastair says, and throws Castiel onto the ground. Meanwhile Uriel puts his hand on the big demon’s head, and his eyes and mouth fill with light, he screams.

Alastair has Castiel by the throat, he is speaking in some sort of strange language. Castiel’s eyes go wide, and suddenly Dean hits Alastair from behind. He reels back, and then turns to look at him. “Dean, Dean Dean. I am so disappointed! You had such promise!” He throws up his hand and points it at Dean and Sam, they both clutch their throats. Uriel is taking down the other demon. As he is finishing, suddenly Anna grabs the little bottle around his neck and smashes it on the ground. “No!” Uriel yells. They all watch as the light comes out and flows into her mouth. She collapses to her knees, gasping, and her body begins to glow. “Shut your eyes,” she gasps. “Shut your eyes!” She stands. “SHUT YOUR EYES!” Everyone covers their eyes except Alastair, who watches. She explodes in a huge blast of light, and Alastair disappears too.

The boys slowly get to their feet, and Dean picks up the knife. “Well what are you guys waiting for? You should go get Anna,” he says to the angels. “Unless of course, you’re scared.” “This isn’t over,” Uriel growls, starting forward, but Castiel stops him. “Looks over to me, Chuckles,” Dean says. The angels disappear. Ruby limps towards them. “You okay?” Sam asks. “Not so much,” she says. “What took you so long to get here?” Dean asks. “Well sorry I’m late with the demon delivery, I was only being tortured,” she says sarcastically. “Well I gotta hand it to you, Sammy - bringing them all together, all at once? The angels and demons? It was a damn good plan,” Dean says, smiling a little. “Yeah well, when you got Godzilla and Mothra on your ass, best to get out of their way and let them fight,” Sam says. “Yeah, now you’re just bragging,” Dean says. “So I guess she’s some big time angel now, huh,” Sam says. Dean nods. “She must be happy, wherever she is,” Sam goes on. Dean is silent for a moment, then “I doubt it.”

On the road
***********
Dean and Sam are leaning against the Impala at the side of the road, drinking some beer. “I can’t believe we made it out of there,” Dean says. “Again,” Sam says, and they clink their beer bottles together. “I know you heard him,” Dean says finally. “Who?” Sam asks. “Alastair,” Dean says. “What he said? About how I had promise?” “I heard him,” Sam agrees. “You’re not curious?” Dean asks. “Dean, I’m damn curious. But if you’re not talking about Hell, then I’m not pushing,” Sam replies. Dean takes another drink. “It wasn’t four months, you know.” “What?” Sam says. “It was four months up here, but... down there, I dunno... time is different,” Dean goes on. “It was more like forty years.” “My God,” Sam says quietly. “They sliced, and... carved, and tore at me in ways that you... Until there was nothing left. And then suddenly, I would be whole again. Like magic. Just so they could start it all over. And Alastair, at the end of every day... every one - he would come over, and he would make me an offer. To take me off the rack, if I put souls on. If I started the torture. And everyday, I told him to stick it where the sun shines. For thirty years I told him. But then I couldn’t do it anymore, Sammy.” Dean chokes up, tears coming into his eyes. “I couldn’t. And I got off that rack. God help me, I got right off. And I started ripping them apart. I lost count of how many souls.” Dean is really crying now. “The things that I did to them...” “Dean... Dean look, you held out for thirty years. That’s longer than anyone would’ve,” Sam says gently. Dean shakes his head, then runs a hand over his face, still crying. “How I feel... inside me... I wish I couldn’t feel anything, Sammy. I wish I couldn’t feel a damn thing.”
